Stoke Old Boys 2nds 14
Shipston Vets 13
Shipston Vets managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Coventry last saturday when the game should probably have been decided by half time. Shipston flyhalf Brian Hobill opened the scoring with a penalty. Shipston completely dominated up front winning most of the scrums irrespective of put in. From a 5 metre scrum on the OB line, the Rams drove over only for skipper and no8 Richard Spencer to fail to ground the ball. Hobill missed with a long range penalty attempt and Shipston were penalised for being in front of the kick. Too many errors were costing the visitors points on the board. Shipston started the second half with added impetus but went behind when the OB second row crashed over. The visitors had another pushover and this time Spencer grounded successfully. With 15 minutes to go Old Boys failed to secure the ball at a lineout on their own 5 metre and Rams hooker Rob Fox pounced to put Shipston 13-7 up. Neither conversion was added. Against the run of play, Old Boys managed to get into the Shipston 22 and the inside centre broke through two tackles to score under the posts. The conversion was successful to clinch the one point win.
