Shipston Vets 32
Kenilworth 3rds 0
Shipston avenged an early seson defeat in the away fixture with a comprehensive 6 try rout of Kenilworth 3s on saturday. The referee deemed the pitch unplayable because of 'elf and safety but common sense prevailed and the captains agreed to play. The conditions were wet and muddy but Shipston no8 Pete Gardner was in his element and put in a man of the match performance scoring two first half tries. Shipston's other scores came from fellow back row Tim Brendon and fly half Carl Hamilton. John Devine added one conversion for a 22-0 half time score. The Old Rams were dominant throughout and should really have broken the 50 pt barrier but two tries were disallowed when the final pass was adjudged forward. The third member of Shipston's back row got on the score sheet when Charlie Cox was on hand to finish a move that he started and Gardner continued towards the line. New boy Phil Russell completed the scoring as the winger peeled off a maul on the visitor's line and fell over. Unfortunately five conversions were missed by John Devine in the harsh conditions.
